If they have to overpay to keep him, f*** that.
The Patriots need to make a big trade for an elite wide receiver to bring the best out in Brady. Welker is a good option but he isn't the guy who will put the offense on the next level and Brandon Lloyd defintely isn't. We all saw how unstoppable the Patriots were with a top receiver they need to try and get that again.

I wouldnt be shocked if they went after Greg Jennings or Dwayne Bowe, and even Mike Wallace would be a huge pickup.

Patriots haven't had a deep threat since Moss was there. Greg Jennings would be amazing.

People way overestimate how good the weapons around Brady are. Welker is taken out in the playoffs, Hernandez is good but inconsistent, and everyone else is average. Gronk is the only true superstar on offense besides Brady, and he's been hurt in the playoffs two years in a row now.

Still, the problem is the defense, by far. You can not play in Foxborough, Massachusetts in January with an offense that relies so much on passing if you can't play defense.

        • patriots need to stop being cheap as far as FA and draft picks.

belichik and brady covers it up but they don't really have a talent rich team.

they have mostly solid affordable players, few special ones.

and brady has to be perfect or belichik gameplan perfect for them to win against talented teams.

If the Pats actually went out and got some talent on the team instead of relying solely on system players they would be on another level. On both sides of the ball to.

Now that Tua just mentioned it in the last post I can't even think of the last time the Pats made a big pickup, trade, or draft move aside from Randy Moss.

This past draft they traded up a few times to get some players which they normally never do. And I'm not sure what you're talking about with Free Agency. New England dabbles in the FA pool quite a bit. It's their process with cutting/trading and letting players walk that I don't understand sometimes. For instance Randy Moss and Richard Seymour. Two guys that were great contributors to the team and great players but for some reason didn't want them anymore.

I agree with another poster that Gronkowski is our only real elite weapon offense. Additionally I think the no huddle offense we used nearly all season on almost all possessions covered up a lot of holes and lack of talent offensively. We don't have a lot of world beaters besides Brady and Gronk but the ability to go fast and prevent substitutions by opposing teams made everyone look like a superstar. Which is why I'm puzzled as to why they barely used to no huddle at all last night. Everything the Patriots did and didn't do to get them to that point they completely abandoned for whatever reason and I refuse to believe that it's because of the Ravens defense. Our offense was the best in the league by a 100 points and to think we only scored 13....I can't figure out why even with the drops and bad clock management before halftime.

Defensively we're a lot like the Packers, which I hate. We're solid against the run, bad in coverage and we take the ball away a lot. We give up a lot of yards and our linebackers are really only good at defending the run, not the pass. Sp!kes is monster near the line of scrimmage but he can't cover for dick.

I'd like to see us get a real deep threat receiver that can stretch the field and some better defensive backs.

their free agent pu is usually not very flashy type. usually just solid players at good price.

and negation mentioned them moving up/trading for picks but they were low level 1st.

pats have given away better picks than those through the years. which might/might not have cost them a bowl or two.

what pats have done is great but brady is nearing the end. time to go all in. no more long term planning. get brady the best, most expensive pieces available.

                • I think sometimes New England is hesitant to draft big time offensive players because the offense is so complex. They basically put their entire playbook out on the field and audible so much at the line, I think they look for players that already have a good bit of NFL experience so they can plug and play them right away. They drafted Ridley two seasons ago and he didn't even see the field until this season.

I think if we do actively seek a receiver in the offseason, it's going to be through Free Agency.

                  • i just want brady to have the best chance to win no. 4 and even 5.

i'm not a pats fan but there are players/coaches i wish were on my team.

i would cut off jreckoning's testicles and eat it like rocky mountains to go back in time and hire belichik in 99 and draft brady 2000 for the bears.
