Other fighters with the amatuer pedigree of Korobov are praised. Why people acting like Korobov is a bum?

Let's be honest Korobov was looked at as an easy touch for Charlo

Korobov was 35 years old, fought his last real opponent in 2014 when he got stopped, was only preparing for an eight rounder, had to come down to 160 in a couple of days and had only fought six rounds in 2 years time.

His amateur record got nothing to do with his pro one. Just take a look at Zou Shiming... one of the best amateurs of all time at the lower weights, but he couldn't achieve anything as a pro. Charlo shouldn't have struggled as much with this version of Korobov if he was at an elite level rn period. If this was an eight rounder, like Korobov prepared for, he would've lost (Charlo). So yeah it seems like the only casual here is the boxingscene writer. The guys responding to him make lots of great points.

"Charlo fought him on 2 weeks notice" is the excuse now.

Well, Korobov also fought Charlo on two weeks notice..

Yeah it reads like their PR agent works for boxingscene now. Would be interesting to know which writer is behind the account and why they are twisting facts that way.

"When Korobov turned pro more was expected from him than Charlo, so a decade later it's a great win for Mell even if he was eating straight lefts all night from a guy with 4 round stamina and a lot of people had him losing"

"Korobov was training for an 8 rounder, Charlo for a 12 rounder. Credit to Charlo for taking the fight, it was him who had late notice really"

Come on dude. History tells us that the champion taking on a new opponent on short notice doesn't tend to look great especially when that fill in opponent is decent.

Had charlo fought a guy like Vanes moving up on short notice the outcome would've been very different.

That said charlo doesn't need an excuse he won the fight. He didn't impress and didn't looklike a threat to the top MW's.

not to mention Korobov was scheduled for an 8 rounder at 168 and with two weeks notice he had to drop an extra 8 pounds and train for 4 more rounds.

I've noticed it's 50/50 which is why when the fight was announced I said it was a lot more of an interesting fight than the Stevens fight. I do think it's funny though how much Korobov was hated on when the fight was announced, and now people are pumping the breaks on that

The guy who was schooling the BS writer (sorry dude but your scorecard is worse than that 119-109 Hazard one) already pointed out that some great amateurs like Davis Jr who don't make it to the top as pros. The boxingscene account had to quickly deflect onto "then why are random middleweight I'm not gonna name ducking him then?" rather than actually answering the point about am records.

                    Exactly.

                    two words: Audley Harrison.

Even David Price was a pretty good amateur who was an Olympic medalist, European champion etc..

All Korobov has ever shown is that he is a good well schooled fighter but has never really cut it as a pro at the top level. He got his shot v Andy Lee and got stopped. Charlo fans need to stop acting like Korobov is some elite fighter, he's not, never has been and never will be. Not as a pro anyway.
