Gotta go with Muhammad Ali. It was the most effective.

Most powerful would Big George Foreman.
          Most effective would be:
          Willie Pep
          Joe Louis
          Ali
          Larry Holmes
          Ray Leonard
I could add a few more but these are pretty good examples.

For me Harold Johnson is in the discussion.

Most of the time was at a reach disadvantage yet was never outjabbed.

Completely controlled entire fights with the jab, front foot, back foot, centre of the ring. Any where at any time he could control the distance with the jab.

And that was all down to some of the best timing I've ever lay my eyes on.

                  I don't believe in a "best."

I won't mention those already named, they have, after all, been named.

If we compare powerful jabs, the epitomy of what Dempsey wrote when he stated, "now a days (this was in the 30's 40's or so) kids put on the mufflers and tap away, no power, just arm, when practicing the jab step into it and hit as hard as one can."

I would put Liston on the short list.

Vlad Klitsko also has a very good jab.

Telepio Stephenson had a great jab that set up his other punches but could make one see chrome bubbles.

Now...In the category of deceptive jabs... We have Jack Johnson who reallt started to innovate with the technique, using the extra extension one gets from rotating the hand to create more distance than a lead hand...

Gans did this also, using the jab as a measuring stick.

Those are a few off the top of my head.

                    Joe Louis
                    Muhammad Ali
