  • Eddie Hearn says you can't become a boxing superstar in the U.S.

The U.K. market is hot for boxing if you want to be a big fish in a small pond. But there's a reason fighters like GGG, Lomachenko, Conlan (from the U.K.),Khan (from the U.K.) Kovalev, Gonzalez, and many others come to the U.S. to fight. And there's a reason fighters like Gabe Rosado go to the U.K. to fight.

Cause U.K. Fans get drunk and cheer for their guy just for throwing punches even if they miss. E.g. Ricky burns last fight

since when does quality of punch matter? floyd-pac, ward-kov. the guys that lost landed the much better punches and the judges and fans werent even that drunk and still scored it for them.

So much talent in the US but those guys are barely known. Interest in boxing and PPV is dying over there.. Well maybe not dying but it’s not thriving like it is in the UK. British fans make the UK a more attractive place for boxing.

Just need to go to an event over here and soak up the atmosphere, it’s like nothing else. Never been to a boxing event in the US but their reporters and fighters all say the UK atmosphere is on a whole different level.

Yea GGG did over 500'000 PPV in the UK and around 150'000 in the US for a better/competitive fight.

UK market is hot right now, no doubt. And, the US market is in a slump. But, it's a mistake to take the extreme swings in two market trends and apply new rules based on the swings. If the trend remained for another 5 years, he'd have a point. But, were only 2 years out from a history making US PPV so, as I say, the current weakness is a swing until time proves otherwise.

Wasn't the US PPV was 3x as expensive?? I thought someone even posted something showing that the US one generated more revenue.
