  • What does the fear quote by Cus D Amato mean?

"the hero and coward feel the same fear..the hero uses the fear, projects it onto his opponent. The coward runs"

    Cus D'Amato

Ive heard Tyson say in an after fight interview that he projects his fear onto his opponent!

What exactly does projecting your fear onto your opponent mean and how exactly do you do that?

That you use that fear for instinct, courage, confidence..even when the fear is set in you don't retreat from the challenge..

A coward won't even step to the plate..he'll run at the first sight of danger..

D'Amato's student may shed light on it for you,

"Fear is your best friend or your worst enemy. It's like fire. If you can control it, it can cook for you, it can heat your house. If you can't control it, it will burn everything around you and destroy you. If you can control your fear, it makes you more alert, like a deer coming across the lawn."

one guy realizes it's kill or be killed, and he'll go for the kill
the other guy realizes it, and he backs down, won't risk it

Feeling fear is not the issue and human should feel fear in certain situations, it is how you react to that fear that matters~

Fear can be used to your advantage if you use it to motivate yourself. You'll do better if you fear (respect) your opponent (it's better to overestimate than to underestimate), because you'll train and fight like it's a matter of life and death, not to mention the adrenaline that comes with fear.
But if you let the fear get to you, you don't believe you can win and you'll just quit.

Yep spot on the hero is scared too , he knows fear ands steps up in spite of it .

I think Cus is referencing that human trait , but adding to use fears energy in a positive way and against itself .

The only difference between a hero and a coward is how you overcome fear.
