Closer simulation to a real fight. Glove size, no headgear, atmosphere, actually counts on your record, weight etc. Hard sparring is definitely important though

accomplishes nothing apart from you get paid for an easy nights work and thats the bottom line as to why these tune up cons exist. theres no need for these tune up fights in the sense of improving skills, you dont improve by beating up some bum. better off getting a quality fighter in and having some hard extended sparring sessions behind closed doors.

In sparring, both guys are holding back. I don't know why people fail to understand this. The degree to which they're holding back depends on what they decide but it's done for training purposes. If a partner has a hurt rib, you aren't targeting it like you would in a fight.
Sparring is training. If you told two racecar drivers to go 70%, would it matter who won that race?
