  • Update on my fighters first fight

Some of you may remember that we have a fighter named Marvin McGowan and he had his pro debut. He was winning easily but suffered a serious cut in the second round because the dude was just an animal in there with his head.

He suffered one of the worst cuts I have seen in the corner in all my years of training. It was 20 stitches inside and out.

So it was declared a no contest and we need him to heal up and he will be ready to go soon. He was scheduled to fight here in Miami on the 29th at the casino but now we have another fighter filling in.

Also Edvan Barros has joined our gym, Brazilian fighter who is a great guy. He's a seasoned veteran with 24 fights but an excellent pro. He worked hard with some of our amateurs yesterday at the gym and it's great work for the younger guys.

Here's a video of him of you guys don't know who he is.

Will try and get some videos for you guys in the near future without giving too much away.

I saw that boxrec had the fight as a draw and wondered what happened.

Good luck for the next fight, that's some interesting insight, very much appreciated!

It ran from his forehead to the inside of his nose. It was bad man, one of the worst cuts I have ever dealt with in a fight. Thank god we have a great cut man and that's why the fight continues because he stopped the bleeding.

He needed 20 stitches though, inside and out. I was covered in blood when we got back to the hotel.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck with the cut, Cuauhtemoc.

I remember seeing those 3 'Ring Life' segments on Barros a long time ago. Edvan seems like a really personable and humble dude - Best of luck to the both of you, as well as the other guys under your guidance in the corner.

Thanks, Barros is a class act man. He takes fights on 5 days notice and was being manipulated by the promoters.

We are now giving him a fresh start. The dude has some serious skills, we moved around the ring a little on Monday just lightly and he was making me look stupid, damn I felt old........

He's a really good guy though that comes from the same background I do, we clicked from the first day we met. Love fighters like him.

                  That's awesome to hear, man.

Being a fan of this sport, it's easy to get caught up in the hype surrounding something like the build-up to a 'super fight', or the result of the latest PPV, and you forget about the battle that's being fought daily by people like yourself and Edvan Barros : Whether it's the struggle of the athlete himself giving it his all to provide a better life for his family than the one they were born into, or the struggle of the trainer who is dutifully watching over him every day in the gym, helping guide him into maximizing his potential.

I can't imagine the kind of bond that environment must create.

                  Give 'em hell, Cuauh.

Thanks man and you couldn't have said it better. People sometimes forget that a guy like Barros who isn't some world wide star, is what boxing is all about. I love this sport so much man, I love helping these guys out and just using what I have learned over the past 20 + years to help them.

Hopefully we will do some big things in this sport this year. I don't care about myself, my recognition just the fighters. If the money comes, that's icing on the cake but I love going to the gym every single day, there's not many people that can say that.

Let me see if I can post a pic of the cut.
