A lot can happen in 18 months, but since Bute holds the 2# spot at smw prior to the tourney, should he remain undefeated he would be the obvious challenger to the role as smw #1.

If the winner lost a fight in the tourny but managed to come out on top and the fighter that beat him in the group stage didn't end up in the final then a rematch?
I agree. I'm hoping this tourney will do for boxing what march madness has done for NCAA basketball. A longshot but anything is possible.

well lets just hope that the tournament has no major hiccups and that the winner of the tournament is actually placed high on the RING POUND for POUND list as they will deserve it.

Also by the time the tourney finishes, Tavoris Cloud will have stamped his authority at 175... Another option.

No offense to Bute or Andrade, but they missed the boat, and IMO if you aren't in this tourney, you aren't the best of the best. Not to mention you aren't fighting the best. I think the champ will have proved everything and will be a star with very few stars to fight with. Perhaps we get some fights in this tourney that warrant a rematch.
Thats easy, Ward will go on to defend his WBA SuperMiddleweight title. If its true that during the different stages some will be non title fights then he wont be able to defend the WBC strap he would get from Dirrell. If not true then he will have that strap also and if Abe gets through he can pick up his IBF strap, wow Ward could come out with 3 belts if they are having title fights.

Best case scenerio: Bute remains undefeated and fights someone like an Allen Green in the states or with major coverage from Canada and becomes a 'B fighter' in terms of his appeal and power. The Super 6 winner will be in the a fighter bracket and provided that the winner is Abraham, Froch, Dirrell or Ward, and they go thru the tourney undefeated, you have the two biggest stars in the division undefeated going for the Ring title in the biggest fight possible for the division.

At the very least: You can see the winner fight the winner of Bute/Andrade or Allen Green if he beats the winner. If the winner of the Super 6 has lost some luster the way they won, then the fight still matters majorly, but it wont be as big an event.

The worst thing to happen for the boxing world is that Jermain Taylor wins the tournament. Then were left with a guy that got beat by the current middleweight champion and knocked out by one of the current contestants. (FROCH). That wont bring that many fans to boxing. We need Ward or Dirrell to win this thing to jump start boxing in the states.
