  • Burma, has anyone been there?

Just wondering if any of you guys have ever been out to Burma before? One of my customers wants me to go and do some work over there for 3 months initially and possibly longer. The tax free numbers they are talking sound good, but the trade off is leaving my family behind for the time.

Im just wondering what the place is like in general? Has anyone been out there? Any info you could share would be magnifico

    It's also known as Myanmar.

    Sadly that's all I know.

Three months isn't so long if you're going to be benefiting your family. Though it will feel like three years at first.

I agree Timmy, it's all about the long game and whats best for everyone. I've been doing some research on the place this evening, it's looking ripe for the picking. Its just moving from military rule to democratic rule and all the sanctions are being lifted and the rest of the world is now piling in trying to grab a slice of the developing action.

Anthony Bourdain visits Burma in one of his books... A Cook's Tour I think. The chapter had me laughing my ass off.

He made it sound like a place where small men go to feel tall, if you know what I mean. People with no social skills in their own country bringing a few bucks over to Burma and living the high life. He didn't say it was dangerous or anything, but was mostly ashamed of what many Westerners were doing there, and made it overall seem like a kinda bleak place.

Saying that, I would go in a heartbeat if it's only for a matter of months and the money is right.
