You still required to do footwork which is an important movement to look forward as it improves you to maintain a distance from attack and assists correct timing in attack and defence.

Use / build more core strength and as mentione above, footwork is the key to not arm punching. You should be turning your hips and applying pressure to your toes when throwing.
