It’s hard to explain so I’ll give you an example I remember from one of the presentations.

We were discussing closing the achievement gap. In it the presenter was telling us how the test we were giving the students was pro white and anti minority because the vocabulary used wasn’t common in urban households, but rather used in suburban homes. Dude even had a list of words. This lead to a speech about making schools for welcoming for minorities not just white Kids and all kids of BS.

Lost in his presentation of course was the fact that if this test was indeed bias towards minorities it skipped the Asian kids and the dual language kids who weren’t affected.
Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification and breakdown

What's your thoughts on school choice?
Depends on what version of school choice you mean.
If it’s allowing kids vouchers to attend established private schools, or the ability for a mom to take her child from her bad neighborhood school to a better one (if the child has the merits to attend of course) then yes I’m for that.

If school choice you mean the charter school system then no. And I say no because based on the research we’ve done with north Texas charter schools
, we’ve discovered they don’t really work. There is an initial spike in grades and test scores when the school first opens but after 5 years, (if the school is still even open) we find the charter school to be functioning at or below the neighborhood public school level. Essentially pointless to divert public school funds to a school that isn’t doing much better. Until this gets fixed I’m not for it.

How about abolish the pathetic public school system and give every kid a funding voucher to attend a private school of their choice, in person or online or hybrid? Competition would drive costs way down (naturally just below the voucher value) and the quality of education would skyrocket.

Some will indeed be lower quality. And being businesses, they will lose customers and a superior competitor will replace them in the market. The public school system simply rots indefinitely to lower and lower standards but never dies.

Public school is intended to keep youth off the streets during business hours and nothing else. Politicians have been pumping billions into it as a diversionary policy since the opportunity first arose with nothing to show. The tiny little bit of information you do learn there is generally either deliberately extremely narrow in scope or flat out factually incorrect nonsense.

In a bid to appeal to the black voters, says the article...

See this? That's the problem with the Media and their divisive reports.

They want to associate everything with race, the education system being no exception, even though the public schools have been in the gutter for many, many years before this administration took office.

Also, as crazy and nutty Bernie Sanders the socialist is, I don't believe for one second he would do such as thing as to "pander" or use a "stereotype" to win him any favors when it comes to the upcoming elections...

Bernie ain’t getting the black vote

He wants to end charter schools, even though black parents are strongly for them as we saw in Cincinnati when they tried to end them.

Bernie is a clueless daydreamer that thinks happy thoughts but has no basis in reality
