Just about the worst thing that could happen to a player in free agency happened to Mark Sanchez as the quarterback was suspended by the NFL. Sanchez was hit with a four-game ban for his violation of the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.

Note that the NFL has at least once in the past, overturned a suspension for a positive clenbuterol test for a player who spent a week in Mexico. Duane Brown initially had a 10-game suspension that was overturned on investigation of the circumstances.
