...only use pull-ups (overhand) as opposed to chin-ups (underhand) in their workouts?

every book i've read and every workout i've seen (joe frazier, kosta tszyu, wayne muccullough, fernando vargas, jack dempsey, rocky marciano) if they include anything for the back, is only pull-ups and not chin-ups.

just curious as to why this is... thanks!

    Because they're harder .

But on a more serious note, I think that pull-ups develop more of your shoulders, while chin-ups work more your biceps. That's what the difference seems like to me, but I only do pull-ups now.

A good way to do it is do a combination. I normally start off with a set up chin-ups, then move to pull-ups, then wide grip pull-ups etc. They all work different parts of your back/biceps... makes sense to move around on what you do.
