  • The Life Of A Sparring Partner

does the sparring partner follow the same schedule and regime as the fighter he's helping?

get up in the morning to do roadwork with him, do conditioning crap, boxing specific training, healthy meals, etc

Sometimes, but other times they are a hired gun to get a guy ready for a certain style,,,

Camps have different needs so it depends whats needed. Many times a pro sparring partner knows the trainer or manager and fighter and will be paid well and have alot of the perks if he's a part of the camp throughout the run. Other guys come in for 2 days or 3 days and come in to bang with the main guy in "open sessions"!
I knew 2 old pros (handled them in bouts) in the heavy division who worked with and/or fought lots of contenders in the 60's thru the 70's. They made decent money because they knew how to spar on all levels. They could imate different styles and are able to give 5 good rounds at a decent pace (not all out)
Just like in the weight divisions (caliber) you have different quality spar partners too, the good ones do ok and usually break camp with a fight on the under card or have a fight scheduled within a week! Ray
