Smaller weight obsession?Reasons

MOst discussions center around light weight and welterweight.

Then the jump is made to Heavyweight. Seems like 168-heavy doesn't get that much love.

Why are most boxing fans obsessed with welterweight?

NO network would even pick up a STACKED cruiserweight tournament with heavy punchers and guaranteed KO's. What is with that?

This cruiserweight tournament is getting slept on. Meanwhile, i'll see 7 articles today about what Jeff Horn and Manny pacman are doing

I thought the heavyweight era was over when after Ali passed the torch.
Holmes just didn't have the same charisma. Then when Mike Tyson came
up, heavyweights were the thing again.

You just need one charismatic heavyweight champion, and I mean a
REAL champion, (it's much harder to be one now, with so many belts)
to galvanize public interest... and I see no one on the horizon at all.
None. Nada. Zip.

At lower weights you've had real characters like Oscar, Floyd, Pac, etc to
grab the public interest, w/ the boxing skills to hold that interest longterm.

Fans go where the talent is. It ebbs and flows over the years.

Personally I see more support for the original 8 classes, barring Feather, Bantam and Fly (for obvious reasons) which is understandable due to how historic they are.

WW, MW and LHW are all very popular. LW would be if it wasnt ****e at the moment.

I think it's a mix of talent and personalities. Once the public gets to know the weight class of a popular personality they tend to continue with it.
