Default Random Thoughts On Rigo/Loma

Great performance by NoMasChenko.

But then again, it was kinda predictable that Loma would win, and do so relatively easily.

It was not predictable that Rigo would quit.

And when Rigo quit he'd lost pretty much every round, but he wasn't getting beaten up, just way outworked...and probably embarrassed.

I don't buy the injury and I won't buy it unless I see an x-ray.

I know folks are going to say size played a role in this fight.

Size did not play a role in this fight.

Maybe Age did though cause Rigo look slow af, looked exactly like a guy who couldn't pull the trigger, especially on straight left hand counters that were there for the taking in between Loma's flurries (Loma sometimes leaves that right hand a little low). I suspect as Loma moves up and fights better guys, he will find folks trying to exploit that particular opening he has a habit of leaving.

I also don't get Rigo tactically this fight.

As the smaller man with a slightly longer reach his best bet would have been to maintain distance, make Loma reach and then counter. Also, if inside, test that body since we know Loma doesn't like it down there.

Instead, he tried to come forward, ducked his way out of any opportunities to counter and in close he tied up so much that a point was eventually deducted for holding.

No idea what was going thru Rigo's mind as far as trying to win and folks who say he showed up just for the check may be right...sure looked like that.

If Rigo's hand IS broken, he had to walk into the ring like that because he didn't land shyt.

This is a good victory for Loma.

This IS NOT a great victory for Loma.

This does absolutely nothing to move Loma up or down on the P4P list- he beat an old man who had fought only 3 rounds the last 2 years and that's exactly what it looked like.

The only remaining guys Loma has any business fighting at 130 is Davis (if Gervonta works up the nerve), rematching Salido to avenge that loss (assuming Siri has anything left), or maybe Berchelt. Anyone else and it is just more bullshyt. Loma needs to move up and fight guys at 135.

If I was the guy choosing, Loma's next fight would be Mikey Garcia at 135. Linares or Easter Jr. will also do.

Rigo won the 1st round clearly then just stopped punching, didn't move & just stood there, started grabbing & got frustrated a couple times. Good win for loma to put on his resume.

This fits with the broken hand in round 2 story! Maybe Rigo was telling the truth!

Again, no idea what Rigo's gameplan was.

Disappointing, It's like rigo didn't even want to fight. I'm a fan of both fighters but I was going for rigo so im really sad right now. Congrats to Loma

My random thoughts:

Loma is legit p4p #1 without a doubt.

Loma with the angles and activity reminds me of calzaghe but with better chin, footwork, balance, and legit punches

Mikey Garcia vs loma is a fight that needs to happen

Loma v Crawford will be the big fight to make next year..

Loma-manny would be a passing of the guard type fight like Oscar v Chavez

Rigo-salido would be interesting

I don't really think he hurt his hand let's see if we get results in....but for some reason after the first round he just stood there. It reminded me of the Clottey/pacquiao fight when Clottey just stood there, blocked & didn't throw punches then never came back to boxing.......

The thing that is frustrating about Loma is that we still don't have the "close the door" answer.

He has beat mostly pedestrian fighters.

And the great or near great guys all have legit excuses (whether you buy into the excuses is another argument).

Gary Russell Jr-untested & even now we have no idea how good he is or isn't.
Walters- on the shelf for a year and even active was never technically great.

And now we have Rigo, on paper his greatest challenge but in fact an old man who fought 3 rounds in 2 years.

I think Loma, if he is going to really take his place as one of the best of his era (as he says he wants to do) is going to need to take on some real challenges his next few fights instead of the calculated tests he has been heretofore been engaging in.

We need a Garcia fight. We need a Linares fight.

If he is going to fight again at 130, only Davis or Berchelt (Siri is done and a rematch is now meaningless to anyone not named Loma).

I aint asking him to go to 140 yet.

But these next ones have to be real challenges, not just mythical on paper illusions.
