  • The international champions cup however, in which we thrashed Barcelona 4-0 last July is as prestigious as it gets. That right there is the Creme de la creme of cups worldwide. We finished runners up in that cup but even second place is better than winning the Europa when it comes to the prestigious ICC. Still remember Messi and co on the verge of tears after the thrashing our under 21's gave them, was a sight to behold.

    • Back when we won the treble the cups were special. They meant something. The prestigious UEFA Cup(exact same one Maradona won) was one of the greatest trophies around at the time. I remember all the big clubs used to be desperate to win it. It had history, greats of the game had placed their great hands all over that trophy. Which is why it was such a special achievement when we won that, as part of our treble.

The Worthington Cup, as it was known back then was also a truly monumental trophy. None of this playing youngsters nonsense was in play at that time, it was straight first team all the way with everyone desperate to win it.

And of course, who can forget the glorious FA cup. Was a season that has gone down in history as one of the greatest seasons in English football history. The footballing world was in awe, world got round the mighty reds were back, back in full effect.

Now they mean **** all tho, but back then they meant something. Was a truly remarkable achievement winning that treble.

Even finishing 2nd might mean nothing if you were 10 points behind the leaders.

The only way 3rd would be something to behold is if say Huddersfield Town came up and finished 3rd. But they wont. That top 6 is cast in stone now. Leicester City was a one-generational thing.

The league has 3 tiers: Chelsea, City, United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs

        Everton

        Everyone else.
Newcastle will be back in the picture as well.

That's one club that spending power to rival spurs and Everton at least.

Really just need to find a Poch or Tüchel of their own.

They already have the second best manager in English football.

          • Also, finishing 2-4 might mean no trophies but it's also the difference between a Hazard caliber player joining your club or not.

Finish outside of the top 4 and have no CL. You'll be hard pressed to have top class players join your club or future stars like Mbappe choosing Arsenal over Tottenham. Despite "history". (Let's face it, he's never join either anyways but it's an example)

They top 4 (CL football) actually means more than we'd like to believe. I'll be very shocked if any top class, legit top class player joins Arsenal now.

I'd also be shocked if Griezmann joined United if they lost to Ajax.

Because 9/10 times those transfers could never happen without CL football.

Benitez I think is a safe manager but he's ran his course. Not up to par with the modern game. Very Wenger esque.
