I guess I won't blame the US because they couldn't have known when Japan would have surrendered, and I did read they were surprised when they finally did surrender. So perhaps they did truly believe that the bombs were necessary. So I can see your point.
Allies wasnt gonna settle for anything aside from unconditional surrender.

Japan was trying to negotiate a deal.

I think Hitler would've had an easier time getting a conditional surrender tbh.

The bombs had absolutely no affect on Japans military and Japan did not care about losing more cities. Most of the cities in Japan were already completely destroyed by normal bombing.

There were only something like 10 cities left that had not been bombed yet after Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed and out of those left there were only like 6 that were reachable for bombing.

The real reason Japan surrendered was because Russia declared war on Japan 2 days later. At that point they knew they were fuqed.

And the reason they surrendered to the United States is because they knew that if they surrendered to Russia, Russia would have completely destroyed their culture. The United States would have been much more lenient.

LOL dumb yanks owned again.

Kids today don't know ****! Russia assassinated Gen Patton because they knew he would beat them on the western front.

Thus Fat Man and Little Boy.

U.S. Forces today in Japan comprises some 54,000 military personnel, about half of whom are stationed in Okinawa.

No. The us wanted to end the war as fast as possible, to prevent another few hundred thousand American lives lost from their estimates of a full assault on mainland japan.

I can see how that thought process makes sense.

Previously I've always thought that the bombs were unnecessary because Japan was already looking to surrender, but now it seems clear to me that they were willing to keep fighting until Russia entered the fray.
