  • How did David Benavidez get the "Bandera Roja" nickname? What does it mean?

    Obviously it translates to Red Flag in English. But what's the story behind it?

    After seeing his brother Jose's thuggish antics I'm wondering if it's a gang affiliation thing. Red rags vs blue rags etc.

        I've always figured it's gang-related. Reading this story about Jose on ESPN, it's pretty clear that he runs in those circles.

                  Mexicans/Mexican Americans are very tribalistic. They will side with their own against all logic most of the time. In a way that's a good thing(solidarity).
