  • Antonio Tarver's Claim to fame.

    Antonio Tarver's Legacy is...

1.BUILT soley on losing to a severely weight-drained Roy Jones Jr in 2003...
2.Then scoring as lucky as a once-in-a-lifetime shot as boxing will ever produce in 2004...
3.Culminating finally in barely beating an inactive, reluctant Roy Jones Jr in 2005...

Antonio Tarver was just a lucky fighter who was in the right place at the right time therefore he CANNOT be classed as one of Bernard Hopkins best wins because he is not even a fighter of anywhere near the same class or caliber.

That is harsh on Tarver IMO. He is better than that. He has several other very solid names on his resume in addition to Roy.

      take away the jones win......

he's a step behind montell griffin.

correction. count griffin's "WIN" over roy and montell griffin has a better resume than tarver.

He also beat Glen Johnson more decisively than Dawson and had good wins over Griffin, Harding, Woods, R. Johnson...

Tarver won't be remembered among the greatest of this era but he had his moments.

You can't KO Roy Jones and expect people to like you! I still get upset thinking about that fight.

The point Im mostly making is Tarver rates Jones as his best win but throughout the Trilogy of fights between them whenever Roy showed even glimpses of his better self Tarver clearly had no answer.

Obviously a prime Roy tears Tarver up but it doesn't change the fact that Tarver has two wins over a Jones that was coming off an extremely dominant era at 175 and a win in a HW title fight. Tarver's wins over Jones should count, it's not like he got to Roy after he had already been KTFO like Johnson did. And as Machine said, Taver has several other solid wins on his resume. He has been a very good 175 pounder and deserves credit for it.

I think is was more of Hopkins going up in weight and dominating.

He pretty much has Roy Jones' resume except Toney, Hopkins, and Ruiz. He also has 2 wins over Jones and 1 win over Johnson...He also beat most of them in less spectacular fashion then Jones obviously, but still.

Tarver has some good wins but his win over Jones (Because of how untouchable he was) made his other wins look not so special.

And i also tink he ride the RJJ win too much, Like his whole life was based around one fight. He has other great win that he or the media doesnt pay much attention to.
