He's very talented. Like most Cuban fighters they are extremely talented amateurs. But that is it! They're amateurs.
Been saying this for years, and have gotten a lot of backlash here from people who think I'm anti Cuban but it bears repeating. Cuban fighters aren't good professionals. They don't take risk, they don't entertain, and they don't belong on TV. Even when you happen to have an entertaining Cuban fighter like Gamboa they find a way to ruin their own career.
Some fighters make the most of big opportunities. Rigo does the opposite. He should get a flat with Billy Dib.
Rigo shouldn't even box professionally. Professional fighting exists solely for the sake of entertainment. If the fans are not entertained, the fighter isn't doing his job. The bests fights are always at an equilibrium point when highly skilled fighters go to war with one another. Too much of one extreme (unskilled cavemen sluggers) or the other (Guillermo Rigondeaux) is a bad thing.
