Algeri said Spence was the best welterweight in the world.

Sugar Ray had something smiley Garcia doesn’t have, blazing speed. Garcia has average speed at 135. He has average power at 135.

This is a terrible matchup for Garcia, Spence is bigger, faster, and stronger and will just destroy Garcia.

the best welters today, are not even close to being in his class

sorry, but I think that is a horrible analogy

the dude was a killer..... Thurman and co, are not

Spence could be

they won't even fight each other

I don't agree with a single thing in your post

15 rounds would kill most of these guys today

The difference is that Spence is a (jnr) middleweight draining himself to Welter while Mikey is a big lightweight. P4P Mikey would beat Spence but if Spence just walks through Garcias punches then the fight will be over soon. As others have said Mikey doesnt have crazy speed nor power.

I agree that Spence is a large welterweight who is probably more of a natural Junior middle or middleweight. However, I disagree about Mikey being a large lightweight. Above 135lbs, he looks a bit pudgy and round for that weight division. However, I do believe that he is a large 130lbs Junior lightweight though.

for 1 SRL really wasn't a small guy he was 5'10 and Hagler was also 5'10 and also SRL was 2 years younger than Hagler who was 32 years old while SRL was 30.

and from what I've read back then the consensus was that the fight between the 2 was 5 years too late much like Mayweather vs Pacquiao, as both were just about out of their respective prime years back then but Ray was closer to prime years than Hagler was.

There have been too many people who've been in the ring with Spence and said he hits almost like a HW for Mikey to have a real chance when he was clearly hurt by Broner to the body. Something Spence specializes in..
Youre on point mate, Ray is lot bigger than Mikey who is only 5'.6" and Spence is as big as Hagler.

One the most important areas of boxing is size and weight, yet so many in here disregard it like it dont mean nothing.

I give Mikey all the credit in the world for really wanting to challenge himself I dont know how anybody can hate on him for shooting to the moon, MG has great timing and good power, he is very economic and precise, his style reminds me of the Argeullos Monzons JMM, very tight very correct and upright, Spence is a similar type of style himself only he brings relentless pressure and is durable.

It boils down to if Mikey can out box Errol, if he moved like FM Leonard or Whitaker Id say he could win the fight, I just dont thing he has fast enough foot speed nor the upper body movement to evade Spence for 12rds of full on pressure, the only way he could is through very precise hard counter punching and I dont think he is fast enough to do that.

If they were the same size I sit on the fence but I just cant get past the big size difference along with the styles they bring.

Its boxing and how Mikey makes the weight will play into it in a big way, he has done well with Maidana in sparing and was every bit as physical with top WWs so its possible he can put up a hell showing to snatch it or he could get run over like a Mack truck, I will give him loads of respect either way.

15 rounds today for the elite would be no different than back in the day, they would just train and pace for the 15 round journey like they did back then, as did the 20 rounds plus guys before them, a guy fighting his first 6 rounder blowing hard yet ends up doing 15 rounds down the road, its all just the training and pacing to do the distance, and fight maturity.

They not better back in time, they men just like todays fighters are men, evolution hasnt changed in man in a 100yrs , its man that has changed himself by refining their training and nutrition.

History has a way of romancing the good ol days, like they were special above all, well they were special in their time but not above all, the elite of any generation would give other eras hellacious battles that could go either way.

there are less-and-less old-school trainers as the years roll on

they have been replaced by inadequate mitt-men

EVERY fighter used to know how to fight off the back foot

old school trainers were mentors, they understood the psychology of fighting

boxers are born in a gym, not in a weight room surrounded by strength and conditioning coaches

oh but science, blah, blah..... and yet, many fighters today look shot after 6 rounds

I would back prime Leonard to beat every WW today, most easily
