It's a good rule for the ufc but it is useless rule for boxing. The cruiserweight class is almost useless and made more sense when the limit was 190. Only a few heavyweight champs have weighed over 240. With day before the fight weigh ins 220 pound heavyweights like Tyson, Holmes, and Foreman can easily make the cruiserweight limit and be back up to 220 by fight time. Most of the best heavyweight champions in history have weighed between 190 and 225 pounds. The cruiserweight class was started because they did not want guys that could not quite make the light heavyweight limit have to fight much bigger men. If you have this class for guys over 240 pounds and the champ of that weight is suppose to be unbeatable many fighters smaller than him will demand to fight him. Almost every good cruiserweight moves up to heavyweight because that's where the most money is. If the money was best in the over 240 class lots of smaller fighters will try to fight the over 240 champion even if the have to weigh in with lots of lead in their pockets.

I understand where you're going with this, but it would be simpler if they just made a rule to not allow fat sloppy guys in the ring. No huge guts, no big flappy man-****, etc.

I wished they would make the max. weight limit 240 or 230. Probably bring better quality out of the fighters. Heavyweight is anything but graceful competiton. Two grizzlies look more graceful then the fat bodies we have now. Just too big IMO

I think for most average/good fighters, the weight differences does make a difference. However, if a great small fighter comes along, he will likely beat the giants.

of course height, weight, reach are advantages in HW boxing. you've got to be a complete fool to discount them.

skills can allow you to beat a man that has physical advantages, but that doesn't negate the fact that height, weight [size when you're in shape,] and reach are advantages.

just look at wladimir. he's tall, and fights that way. his jab hits like a smaller man's right hand, and he shoots it from too far away for most men to counter.

if you want to counter it, you'd better be fast as hell and skilled. that's what we call "an advantage."

you'd better be durable as well, because that's a 6'6" athletic guy with hands the size of dinner plates, and his jab will break a man down.

Good to see that majority of posters chose "no limit" and were not fans of this ******ed idea to add another bastard division that nobody cares about.

Let Tyson Fury fight Bryant Jennings and you will see what a waste of breath threads like this one are. Jennings would beat that worthless gypo like a drum for as long as he could take it without DQ'ing himself.

No, why should there be a limit? there will still be awful and out of shape fighters and even if there are they obviously aren't going to beat Wlad so who cares? let them be tubs of lard fighting, don't see the harm in it.

                    Exactly.

The only reason they fight at HW, is because there's more money.

If American TV would show a few cruiserweight fights so the fighters would have decent paydays, the problem would be solved.

Fighters have to get in good shape themselves. You can't make rules to make them get in shape. To make all boxers weigh less than 230 or 240 to be allowed to compete would be unfair. Wlad is 245 and in perfect shape but under that rule he could not fight.
