The Knicks have announced that J.R. Smith had patella tendon surgery for a tear in his left lateral meniscus.

Smith’s injury was “chronic” and “gradually worsened over time.”

The recovery is expected to take 3-4 months.

Apparently he wanted to just stay off of it and see it recovered without surgery but it actually worsened. Thus he had no choice.
