On his best night he was a tough, relentless and strong fighter, he could stand a lot of punishment and exhaust opponents with constant mauling and roughousing. He also had very quick feet, could cut the ring down well and had pretty quick hands.
While not pretty, he was damned effective. Sadly he didn't live the life of an athlete, and years of abusing his body wore him out and finished him up young. While he was a monster in training, it's just never good to put your body through it, having to lose 50lbs in camp over and over again. The end came when facing the most devestating P4P fighter of his generation in pacquiao.
