Wilder was likely chasing the Fury/Klitschko II winner, that's why there was "pressure" to get a fight in by July. The timing of the fight was tricky as it is to be close enough so the Fury/Klitschko winner couldn't find another opponent quick enough. Wilder getting injured was a setback in more ways than one. Fury/Klitschko II then got postponed and then canceled. The injury allowed AJ to get in a voluntary without anybody giving him **** for it.
Ortiz is a funny case, he's sitting pretty with a direct title shot IBF mandatory with the AJ/Klitschko winner but instead he'd skip that to fight an WBC eliminator to get a title shot. How is that in Ortiz's best interest? I doubt anybody thinks Eddie Hearn has Ortiz's best interests at heart. He wants to send Ortiz over to Wilder like an attack dog and Ortiz is willing to play the part.
