[PLEASE HELP] What Does "Bump" mean in a thread?

im sorry if this sounds stupid but why do i always hear people saying "bump" in a thread?? i dont know what it means :S can anyone care to explain?

It usually is for old threads when you want to bring up an old thread it's called bumping a thread. So let's say this thread gets sunk in to page 2-3 in Lounge's main forum. I go to it and bump it so it can come back up on the main page and people can see it and post on it.

"Bumping this thread for being legendary".
