We've got different languages on this.
PUNCH (as in OUCH) comes from the French weapon the ponchon.

PUNCH (as in mmmm, not bad) comes from Sanskrit! PANC means "five," and they made a mixed drink with five ingredients: sugar, lemon, water, spice (or tea) and booze. The Brits who were in India brought the idea back home, and varied the recipe. You throw in whatever is handy. In Hawaii that meant a lot of different types of fruit. "Hawaiian Punch" became popular in the U.S. in the 1930's and by the 1950's or 60's, they advertised on TV with those notoriously violent cartoon commercials: "Hey, how about a nice Hawaiian Punch?" "Sure!" #@#@#@!! (what a punchline)

We can thank the Italians for PUNCH (as in ha ha) as they had a comedy character Punchinello, who became the comic Punch of Punch and Judy puppet shows. Punch became a symbol of comedy in England and the mascot of Punch magazine.

The link does not work for me. What exactly was a scissors punch?

Well, the scissors punch was illegal, but it had a name and was used. It goes on the list now. Welcome, scissors punch.

                  - -Fitz/Corbett the first phantom punch changed to solar plexus when the first ever full length feature film came out months later and could be replayed over and over in slowmo hand cranked action.

Also had the Hawaiian Punch by it's namesake whose proper name escapes in the moment.

Andy Ganigan was the Hawaian Punch.

Sam Peter threw both hands at the Same time against Wlad Klit, I believe.

I was awaiting Shavers' 7th-round knockdown of Holmes popping up in this thread, but it never did ... until now.

Probably the hardest punch ever that didn't lead to victory.
