Jack Dempsey before he met doc kearns

Is it true that dempsey was a skinny middleweight who didnt know how to box but could fight and had a big heart before he met Kearns?

doubt it....Dempsey was a Mean boxer in the ring...hes definately gonna be in my top 10 HW of all time
