Default Pep vs Camacho

Two legitimate speed demons again. How does this one work out? Is Hector too fast for Willie?

Hector never fought below a LW and Willie never fought above a FW.

In any event, my money's on The Macho Man.

--- Not true...Camacho was first a super feather and pep fought many lightweights. Crimony, his AMA match against SRR was legendary back in the day.

Prime Camacho was the fastest fighter of hand and foot I have witnessed, so the bout would have to be waged at LW or SFW, and though Pep a favorite fighter of mine, Hector too fast and may even ko him. He fell apart once he had money to buy all the women and drugs he wanted, but I doubt there's been perhaps only a few in history that match his natural gifts.

Pep may have fought "many" LWs but he was a FW.

As far as Camacho, technically he may have been a SFW [whatever the heck that made up weight division is] but he fought at LW & above during his prime years.

So, IMO, Hector would be too much for Willie to handle, given his size & speed.

Camacho fought 5 times under 130 in 88 bouts!
In 240 bouts I doubt Pep fought over 130 more than 25 times.

Doesn't exactly make him a lightweight. The over feather bouts was when Pep was at the end of his 26 year career!
At feather Pep is the general consensus best.

As for hand in foot speed Camacho's era relied on a lot of flash and meaningless show shots. He was fast but no faster than Pep and as far as foot speed and over all ring movement no body was better than Pep and that remains to this day.

--- Ray, there's a wonderfully complete website name of boxrec with most fighters in existent record listed.

I suggest you use it. Pep was over the 126 limit for half his career, ie lightweight.

Camacho won his first two titles at 130 in 100% dominant KOs before moving up. I have no prob with those thinking the fantastical pep wins, but c'mon, show some integrity!

Queensbury...try to understand this ok, in the days gone by you could weigh 2+ even 3lbs over a limit and would be considered a feather fight as long as there were no titles at stake.
What today is called "catch weight" (completely illegal for a title bout) but over looked if it's a "cash cow" ala Mayweather.

Back then if both fighters came in at 130+ it should be a lightweight mark but again "plus a few" were stated in the contracts.

No one refers to Pep as a lightweight!!!

I knew Pep since I was born, he worked corners with me at the garden and mentored me when I began working as a chief second in the Hartford Civic Center!

--- That's fine, Ray, and much respect, but it don't change that Pep was well over 126 for much of his career that was mostly nontitle bouts.

I'd speculate he could've won a LW title had he wanted, but like Loma, even the great Pep had limitations, but oh to have witnessed his SRRobinson bout.

They did stage a recreation at the end of their careers that may still be on Youtube.
