  • Comments Thread For: Team Canelo Confident: Saul Will Beat Sergio Martinez

José 'Chepo' Reynoso, the trainer of WBC 154-pound champion Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs), is confident his boxer can defeat Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28KOs), the WBC champion at 160-pounds.

On September 15th in Las Vegas, Martinez defeated Canelo's countryman Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32KOs), while a few miles away Canelo beat down Josesito Lopez over five rounds.

Following their respective fights, Martinez mentioned Canelo as a potential opponent in early 2013. Martinez, a former junior middleweight champion, is willing to return to 154-pounds to make the fight.

If Alvarez fights Sergio, it's a dumb move. He'll get beat down, unless he's better than I think he is. He needs to fight a Kirkland/Molina or even a Dzinziruk/Quintana this December, than the Cotto/Trout winner in May. If he gets through those fights, go for Sergio or Floyd if you want to. No need to get beat down by Sergio or Floyd already.

Ha Ha Martinez is just a boring Ballet dancer that we all want to retire. He fights Canelo and all our wishes come true :-)

Team Alvarez Camp: We are very interested in a Sergio Martinez fight!!!!....Fight doesn't happen. Sergio Martinez is a top pound for pound fighter. Going from Josesito Lopez to a monster in Sergio would be a train wreck for him. Sergio knocks him cold early

Martinez would beat the bejesus out of Canelo, he would get hurt and hurt badly.. Martinez would move all around him hitting him hard like he does the true middles, Canlelo hasnt even beat a good jr middle, he fights old guys and little guys, this is a more protected fighter then gosh darn Jr. Is it Martinez's job to beat over protected mexican fighters or something? This is a worse missmatch then Jr vs Martinez
