Some of the Pinoy media never liked Donaire. If you remember Donaire even called out the pinoy media and filipinos for for doubting he could beat Darchinyan. Only after he won the world title that he got the respect from his own community. Donaire loss in the Olympic trials to fellow pinoy Brian Viloria. The match was close, but many pinoys preferred the fighting style of Viloria. Donaire is more a boxer/puncher that uses range than counters with his power shots. There was also beef between them both as Viloria beat Glen Doniare (nonito’s kapatid na lalaki).

Donaire has never fought in any pac under cards and there was reported beef between Rachal Donaire and Pac’s wife. Don’t remember the exact comments. Other than Donaire’s mom being Pac’s teacher at General Santos City they don’t have much of a Kuya/Kaibigan relationship. Some in the Pinoy media called out Donaire for his feud with his dad.

Donaire IMHO is not marketed correct. He has been in the states since the age of 9 and he never puts the stars and stripes in his trunks. Many Mexican-American fighters as DLH, Ortiz, and even Bam Bam try to win over both audiences. Donaire likely will never be a big PPV star as he is not marketing himself well. Brian Viloria is marketed as an American fighter with pinoy roots.

I am not sure which Pac fans you are talking about. Many pinoys who are true boxing fans will follow fighters they like. If they don’t like Donnie Nietes or John Riel Casimero they likely won’t root for them even if they are pinoy.
