After months of fostering an image as a working-class Democrat, Ocasio-Cortez told the New York Times shortly after her Nov. 6 general election win that she won’t be able to afford an apartment in the Washington, D.C., area until her new $174,000-a-year salary kicks in next year. The median rent in D.C. is $2,700, according to real estate website Zillow.

Members of congress have two residencies, one in there home state and one in Washington. So they'll be paying for both.
So now she has to sign a lease for an apartment in Wash, so thats $2500 (most likely more) a month plus initial deposit. She'll be paying for three months with no income, add the initial deposit and we're looking at $10k. Now factor in her home residency rent, bills, food, and she's still paying off her college debt. $15k isn't looking too good now is it?

Huh? She was doing it, she worked a 9 to 5 at a bar to pay for rent. Now she has to pay for two rents, bar money aint that good

Lol I guess you missed it. Many others have to do these same things. You have to make a sacrifice to climb the latter. Im sure she has family or friends that can help during this 3 MONTHS. Then she can collect her 200k and she'll be just fine just like everyone else in congress.

Soon she'll have to pay taxes on that 200k lol. Something she thinks people in that range should do more of.

What should she have done? She's just a regular person who worked as a bartender living in a one bedroom apartment trying to make ends meet. She could easily take dirty money like every other politician and be rich but instead chose to pass on that. So now she's not indebted to anyone and can have the middle class as a priority in terms of policy and not rich people/companys.
Don't know how anyone could attack someone like that.
