  • How fast should Loma move up?

So Loma has only 11 fights under his belt....how fast is he to move?

I'm sure that those that dislike him would want him to jump to 140 tomorrow and get his ass whooped by TC....but he could have a much longer career if he slowly builds himself up top 140 and hey maybe even one day, if he is successful at 140 move to 147.

But as it stands what is he to do? Lets say he goes to 135 today, lets say he does fight Mikey at 135 then what? A fight or two there, now what? 140? Lets say he goes there and fights a solid fighter, now what?

It just doesn't seem to make sense for him to move too fast because eventually he will just get knocked out by someone much bigger and the potential to watch him for say 5 years giving some good fights can turn into 2-3 years of fighting.

Its also about making money...If he retires with 20 fights vs. 30 fights he makes a lot less money.

If he tries to unify divisions and do a defence here and there he can be around for much longer.

    What do you think?

move to 130 in march. fight beltran for the wbo. then make a defense. then unify against mikey.

that should be his 2018 lineup.

he should spend at least 2 years at 135

Doesnt seem like anyone at 130 wants to fight him. Like to see him fight Berchelt for Lineal though, if he cant get that in the next 2 fights he should move up. Dont really wanna see anymore of these exhibition fights.

He should never move up unless making 130 weakens him. As long as he can make 130 and be strong and fight at his best that is his correct weight and the weight he should stay at.If making 130 does weaken him then he should move up to 135. The idea that an excellent boxer who is very comfortable at the weight he is fighting at must move up to a weight class that is too heavy for him to fight men naturally heavier than him to dare to be great is a stupid one. It should be called dare to fight above your best weight to get your ass kicked. Let's say at 135 there is a boxer just as good as Loma but he is a natural 135 pound fighter. If Loma moves up to fight this guy he will lose not because that boxer was better but only because that boxer was bigger, Mayweather didn't move up from 130 to 147 to dare to be great. He moved up from each weight class when he outgrew that weight class and had trouble making weight. When he fought at 135 he had trouble making 130. When he fought at 147 he could no longer make 140. He failed to make the agreed 144 pound weight for Marquez and weighed 146. Ward moved to 175 when he could no longer make 168 and he said so. Donaire and Gonzalez kept moving up in weight again and again when they probably should not have and it got them knocked out by naturally heavier boxers.

Personally, I'd like to see him become undisputed champ at both 130 and 135, providing those other title holders are willing to fight him. Fighters cannot wait around a division forever for other title holders to fight them, so at some point he may have to jump up and down in divisions to get the fights he wants. Similar to what Mikey is doing right now.

I think he's moving along at a reasonable pace. He's moved up already, mind you. And there are still fights at 130 that can be made.

Mayweather isn't stupid. He as you say moved up when his body was ready for it. Some guys can make weight in their division their whole career.

Agreed. There are several good fights at 130 still. Even redemption against Orlando Salido is still possible. Berchelt and then Linares would be great for 2018. Thereafter he could just defend either of those Lineal titles.

Chuck Beltran in the middle for a damn fine year. 1. Lineal 130 2. Least fights to 3 weight world champion 3. Lineal 135

Those sort of accolades is whats hes interested in, wants something with every fight, not the Marriaga sort of fights, only Arums tightness holds him back.

Lomachenko got different goals to say Golovkin, Golovkins goal to dominate a division, Lomachenko wants the best possible fights he can get. Neither are the wrong career choice. Dont see Lomachenko hanging around at 130 if all Arum can provide him is that Japanese dude and his mandatory
