Probably the most under appreciated & over looked English artist ever? Born 6 September 1836 in Leeds Yorkshire.. Known for his city night-scenes and landscapes his paintings capture so much atmosphere & leave me haunted & equally spell bound every time i look at them. Even James Abbott McNeill Whistler (the famous American artist who painted Whistlers mother) After visiting Grimshaw remarked that "I considered myself the inventor of Nocturnes until I saw Grimmy's moonlit pictures"..
No one captured the rain and mist, the puddles and smoky fog of late Victorian industrial England with more poetry than Grimshaw.
