Picking the weakest titleholder in a higher division again. Kovalev is still a dangerous opponent bc of his size and power but he's past his best days & Ward already wrote the book on him. Canelo is gonna destroy his body from the opening bell & finish him off with a left hook to the body. Can't see this going any other way unless Kovalev finds a way to actually hit Canelo with a big shot. Hope he comes back down & fights either GGG a 3rd time or Andrade. He's been getting boring lately.

If Canelo were looking for the toughest challenges, he'd go for prime LHW, let's be honest. Not that Kovalev isn't dangerous, he's just not as dangerous or hungry like other LHW champs. These guys are in their prime and boy do they want to prove themselves, they wouldn't be looking to cash out, they would be looking to crucify Canelo to make a name for themselves. So let's just call spade a spade without this "toughest challenges" nonsense - it won't be easy, but with lovely 118-110 judging, past his prime Kovalev it won't be so tough either. Very smart work on Canelo's team's part to build him an excellent resume.

And it's not like he can't fight, he is excellent, just not so excellent as he's made out to be. He's no Loma or Usyk, let's be honest.

It is admirable for Canelo to take this fight. I have to mention though that one can hardly call the win over Fielding as having won a super middleweight title. He is, however, agreeing to take on one of the best light heavyweights who still has good power. Kovalev may not beat Bivol, and not sure he beats rhe other champions, but it's a decent fight. But it's not a long time from his fight against Yarde, and that may not be good.

Couldn’t agree more. GGG said many times he’d fight anyone from 154 to 168. That was a major part of his marketing premise, and his fans are it up regurgitated it every chance they got.

To date, the only material fight he’s taken above 160 is against Rolls. Is Rolls @164 better than a CW fight against Chavez, 168 vs Fielding or 175 vs Kovalev?
