Much better fight than Cota. Vanes was a legit fighter. Was inactive and it was his first fight at 160...but he looked fine in there, got outlanded heavy in round 1 like most do when they face GGG. But many gave Vanes the 1st round because he landed the best combo at the end of the round that stunned GGG.

Also his last fight before GGG was 2 years not 3..why lie about that unless one has a vested interest in trying to make the fight out to be bad/hate on GGG, regardless of whether there is any truth in it.

Wish people on here kept it more real about the analysis of fights/fighters...root for whoever you want but at the end of the day credit should be given where it is due. Some people are so threatened by GGG it's crazy lol.

True good point man - to be fair I don't really mind a guy taking an easy-ish fight as a fill in. Just want his next fight to be pretty quick or pretty big after that one.

Always risky imo to take on a last minute guy - especially one like Ruiz who showed he could fight at the top level before against Parker (Parker at the top level is subjective - but wasn't a whole lot of difference between Joshua-Parker and Ruiz-Parker) and no one had ever really destroyed him at all.

Lol - well you made the claim man - back it up. How do you think you look cool for making a claim that people were saying something, I ask for proof, and you decline to provide the proof? lol

Yeah I said that Rolls isn't as bad as the number 93 or whatever ranking people were giving him. From his tape and resume I would rate him about 20. He looks no worse than Hugo Centeno I will tell you that.

If you think he is number 93 or whatever, go ahead and list the 92 guys above him. Hell list 20 above him if you can. Then again I am 100% sure you haven't watched his tape at all and you can't name 20 guys period at MW lol.

GGG had more options and better scenarios that would had suit his "all belts" stand. Plus he is more like an "A" side for most guys, other than the real A sides.

And he chose to fight Vanes to secure a Payday.

Nobody cares for Charlo, he is barely a b side . So nope not the same

Can't argue with much of that. Good post even if we overall disagree. Thanks.

Not sure how people can really hate on a guy wanting to keep the original fight date in May when his opponent pissed dirty, and when the rematch would be a few months later in September, in a grudge match, big payday, legacy fight.

The Dervy fight would not have happened on May 5th...would have aged GGG another year without a fight, no Canelo rematch in September, would have been another 6 months older for that fight, through no fault of his own.

Don't really see the logical angle of people hating on him at all for that one.
Dervy was ready. Loeffler said they didn't want to take that fight on short notice & HBO wasn't offering GGG enough money to take that fight. So GGG took an inactive junior middleweight. AJ was in a similar situation and picked a credible opponent. Vanes has even come out now and said he should've never took that fight.

Nobody was hyping Dervy as a world beater. We were simply saying that's a better fight than Vanes. Wouldn't you agree?

That fight would have never happened on May 5th with Dervy. Everyone agrees on that. Why would you say otherwise? Not a good look man.

Dude - AJ was one of the biggest favorites ever against Ruiz lol. After the fact it was a tough fight, but on paper not at all. Check the odds.

Vanes and Ruiz are more or less the same type of guy with subtle differences - Vanes a little more inactive and moving up in weight. Ruiz a little more uncertain of whether he can really compete at top level. Vanes already had proven he could.

Dervy barely 'beat' Jack Culcay. At the time I agree it was a better fight...in hindsight not so much.
