If Tyson Fury fought in Muhammad Ali's golden era, would he have performed well?

Tyson Fury is easily the greatest (or 2nd greatest after AJ) of this HW era.

But if he wants to be the best HW of all time, that means he should display enough greatness to show he would be capable of dominating any HW era in history, and we all know Muhammad Ali's era is the greatest era for boxing.

How would a Prime Fury do against Prime Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Ken Norton etc?

I think most of the top HW from that era are more skilled, but as time progressed, the boxers have become more bigger, stronger, have better access to nutrition and training etc.

Would Fury crack the top 5? Top 10-15?
Would he be up there with Ali and Frazier?

Would his insane reach and defence allow him to get past the hard hitting monster George Foreman?

He has gone down from punches more than once. I'd say that against big hitters like Foreman, Cooney, Shavers, he gets knocked out. Against master boxers like Ali, Holmes, he loses UD. Frazier could knock him down with a big left hook but not ko him.

He out boxes most everyone else.

You simply cannot ask this question at this point in his career. We have to see more and digest what we have seen. For example as much as triangle theory is not hip... we all would like to see how Wilder does. What if Wilder sparks AJ? and then Fury beats him in a rematch? And then Fury takes on and beats AJ and maybe 3 up and commers?

What if Fury gets beat badly by AJ? And AJ loses to wilder?, or Wilder beats AJ?

These are all different scenerios that would impact how we see Fury.

So his best wins in Ali era would be -

aged 38 year old Floyd Patterson
draw with Jimmy Ellis or perhaps Buster Mathis (nabf but equivalent to todays watered down 4 way split)

and after that some wins over journeymen.


So why on earth you are talking about the top guys and fury in the same sentence, beggars belief, based on what he CAN do.

one thing - if hes in the 70s, why do you how him access to better nutrition?

being in the 70s would surely make him worse than being able to beat a 38 year old titlist?

- -Ali was never unbeatable as LHs Cooper and Jones showed before the Liston fight.

And subsequent fights while Fury still is in spite of a spat with mental illness and drug rehab and now presumably on strong psycho sedatives.
