There are many liberals in the world today who oppose any criticism of Islam, no matter how thoughtful, rational and fact based the criticism may be. There are many who believe that Muslims are a persecuted minority and will defend Muslims (and their religion) no matter how contradictory Islam is to 'western liberal values.'

Here's a good example of liberals opposing just and honest criticism of Islam:

Didn't read the article, did you? In short, it said Brandeis rescinded its honorary degree to Ms. Hirsi because she was such a vocal opponent of Islam. The liberals at Brandeis University cowered to political correctness in their decision.
