  • Mythical Cruiserweight Classic: Evander Holyfield vs. James Toney

I'm trying to educate myself about the next-to-invisible cruiserweight division, as you might have seen from my previous thread in NSB. Anyway, surely it's widely acknowledged that when you speak of the greatest cruiserweights the sport has seen, "Real Deal" and "Lights Out" have to come up almost instantly.

So, let's make it a poll question. Assume a prime Holyfield and a prime Toney -- at cruiser. Who wins? Comment in the column how you see the fight going, and register your vote in the poll, if you would. Thanks.

    * I know these two did fight (at HW) in 2003. I'll leave it up to you whether that has any bearing on your answer here.

As skilled as James Toney was , I regard Holyfield as the greatest cruiserweight in history. His resume is pretty impressive there with wins over Qawi, Deleon, and Womack. It would be a good match up of skills but I see Holyfield outhustling Toney and winning a decision.

One thing is quite apparent: Luccio is consistently churlish.

And another thing is relatively clear: Holy mangles Toney.

And how does Hop propose to make Toney in his prime a cruiser? Give him a bigger frame? Then it is not Toney, is it? While we are at it, let's make Marciano a prime featherweight for a match with Saddler.

i think tony is an underrated cruiserweight.
he spent a long time there and i would argue it is his best weight.

            think about it????
its the only weight toney doesnt have terrible performances where weight is blamed...

i would argue toney is a top 3 cruiser atg....

              as i stated previously

cruiser toney is prime toney (i dont consider his age just how well he performed)

where/when would you say toney prime bro?

James Toney widely acknowledged as one of the best Cruiserweights ever?

That's not even remotely close to true.

                    Holyfield beats him easily.
