Burner an investment is something you can profit from. It basically means using money to make more money. IRA, Savings Account, house (in most cases), bonds, CD's, ect. A boat might be considered an asset (though I think it's a liability) because you can liquadate it like you mentioned but it's not used to gain profit (unless you're in the business of restoring boats which I doubt Floyd is). You're confusing the two.
