RJJ didnt sell near what DLH did in the 90s for example. Two different things.
Nowadays, star power equates to skills and box office potential.

Jacobs vs Arias didn't even register in most fans' radar screen.

Thurman can rematch Bundu or Karass and you'll still see a huge difference, as compared to Jacobs.

Bottom line is he's been in competitive fights.

Can you name other Thurman-level fighters?
      Mikey may be another...

      Can you name some more?
      Errol Spence.

I think Thurman has replaced Maidana or Khan who I believed have been in that category. Broner can also be in it even with loses.

And here fans are only asking for Thurman-level,
          while waiting for big fights.

Thurman finally stepped up when he fought Porter and Garcia.
We finally saw the actual Thurman. Both fights were close.
Clearly, these are the kinds of fights fans want to see.
Why is this so much to ask?

It keeps the belts intact and shiny too.

Most of them are not even trying. They skip the top 5 in their division,
and just hope to directly head for the big money fight.

There's still not a lot of them after all these years.
