Only the most stubborn atheists would make a statement about Christianity not being the foundation of western laws. Literally every law created from early monarchy to the constitution had heavy Christian influence, and it's solely for the reason that our ancestors lived in a Judeo Christian atmosphere/system that allowed for the evolution of free thought. The proof is in the pudding, take a look at Islamic culture from its birth in roughly 650 A.D and Christianity from 650 A.D until today and then compare the two in terms of political development and you'll see that one can coexist with modern thought while the other cannot.

The Protestant work ethic has created the most powerful and highest living standard countries in the world. That is fact, not opinion, and definitely not conjecture. When it comes to education, business, law, economics, philosophies, art, literature, they are all at the top. USA, Germany, the Scandinavian countries, UK, Netherlands, etc., lead the way in this world.
