  • What's stopping Golden Boy from promoting a PBC card?

According to the judge, Haymon isn't stopping them from promoting a card. Golden Boy hasn't submitted an offer to promote a PBC card.

Finally, the Court concludes that no reasonable jury could find the existence of a tie, when Golden Boy has not submitted a single proposal to Haymon, Haymon Sports, or any of the other Haymon En****** for the promotion of any Haymon Sports’ boxers during the Covered Period. As such, there is absolutely no evidence that Haymon Sports has ever refused a request by Golden Boy to promote one of its boxers during the Covered Period.
But when Golden Boy contacts Haymon to put one of his fighters on their cards Haymon cooperates

15 Plaintiffs’ argument that directly contacting Defendants would have been futile is belied by the fact that Defendants have allowed, on multiple occasions, their fighters to participate in events promoted by Golden Boy
And when Luis Ortiz inquired about fighting on a PBC card he was turned down by those at Golden Boy.

In fact, the evidence suggests that it is Golden Boy, not Defendants, that has refused to deal with the Haymon En****** during the pendency of this lawsuit. Indeed, in May 2015, Robert Diaz (Golden Boy’s matchmaker) received a suggestion from the manager of then Golden Boy-promoted heavyweight, Luis Ortiz, to try to place Mr. Ortiz in a bout that is featured within a PBC show. Mr. Diaz responded, “Are you serious? You do know we have sued Haymon right?”
So what's stopping them from promoting a fight with Wilder, Porter, Thurman, LSC, Spence, etc? None of them are signed with a promoter.

Now that the lawsuit is over, they'll take their rightful place next to all the rest of the 'sham' promoters.

If they want to eat, that is.

Oscar recent DUI is WHY they wanted to buy him out, have nothing to do with "TRYING TO TAKE GBP AWAY FROM HIM"

The biggest GBP Event Mayweather vs Canelo and he was in REHAB leading up to that fight wasn't even their for "HIS FIGHTER" Canelo because of his own Demons. Why would a young fighter trust you with their career when you don't even have your OWN **** together!

Yeah work together Why the FUK NOT? Boxing needs unity to get out of these PPV and Ratings Slumps

Great commentary on the reality of how things look to most rational people. Kinda the last thing a f#ck up needs to be doing is heading a multi million dollar business. I know Oscar loves boxing. I know Oscar wants to do good for the sport. And I'm honestly rooting for the guy cuz he represents boxing & ultimately at the end of the day I'm with boxing & with the people in the sport no matter if I like them less then another promoter, manager or athlete in boxing. I'm like Trump with America first. I put boxing first. BUT Oscar needs to probably step aside & figure his own sh^t out once & for all before his story is one of tragedy that far exceeds anything he's experienced thus far.

Absolutely this. My dream for boxing is all the major players (promoters & boxers primarily & no alphabet groups) in boxing group together to make their own elite league of boxing with those same players success becoming a symbiotic result where when X wins Y wins too to some degree. Boxing needs to quit being a f#cking traveling circus with the main goal being to make money grab fights & needs to become a sport again where the best fight the best & those fights are events that command the attention of fans of competition at a high level & not just hardcore boxing fans.

            Nothing, yet everything.

Haymon, from the way he's run his shop, doesn't want to or trust doing business with Oscar. He'll work out the deal if there's a fight that makes sense for a fighter he works with, but that's it.

And, with Oscar's substance abuse issues being what they are, that likely doesn't change anytime soon

              the court case.

You cant ask why X didnt do blah blah with Y when X needs to portray Y in a certain light will be contrary to what you are trying to portray if you work with them. IM sure going into the future they will play ball, hesitantly but they will.

                  Loyalty.

Haymon is able to operate without having his fighters sign long term promotional agreements because promoters know if they are loyal to Haymon he will take care of them and if they are disloyal to Haymon, they'll be kicked out of the party.

Lou Dibella, even though he doesn't have Deontay Wilder on paper, goes to bed at night knowing he'll continue to promote Wilder as long as he does a good job.

What fighter is Haymon going to take away from Dibella to give to DLH? And what message does that send to the rest of the promoters working for Haymon?

Haymon has no use for DLH other than getting DLH to overpay for Canelo PPV opponents that Haymon wasn't doing much with anyway.

Lou did the first Frampton-LSC fight and Schaefer did the second. Lou did the Jack-Degale fight. Floyd did the Jack-Bute and Degale-Medina fight. Warriors did the Jack-Dirrell fight. The promoter depends on the location. Fighters are promoted by whomever is licensed in the area. Golden Boy has a significant presence in California.
