Were the English really that weak that vikings were able to conquer Northumbria without virtually breaking a sweat?

How accurate is the tv show The Vikings?

It's fiction - take it with a grain of salt.
The Vikings were fierce warriors though, before they became Christianized.Last edited by The Hammer; 02-08-2015, 03:48 AM.

It's made by the HISTORY channel not Fox or HBO, it is meant to be historically relatively accurate but not completely factual.
Most of it IS accurate so dont take it with a grain of salt at all, why are the anglosaxon warriors a bunch of punching bags when in reality the vikings were scared ****less of them and invaded through ambushing supris attacks over a series of years not one big invasion killing everyone. Other than that fairly accurate historically

Also i've done some reasearch and yes the Anglo's at that time were very weak compared to the Vikings, at that point the English were very religious christians who lived a relatively peaceful farming lifestyle, whereas the vikings were backward, premitive and very aggressive because of their northern europe snowish upbringing.

Before the Vikings converted to Christianity they were barbaric heathens who worshipped death. Death and a violent one was something to be celebrated with the Vikings. Their whole culture was based on being a brute.
