  • Stop blaming PBC for HBO's budget restraints

So I have been seeing in thread after thread people blaming PBC for hbo continuing to lower their boxing budget. Even tho HBO has been lowering their budget almost every year they want to blame PBC. I get the argument that PBC pays fighters to much but what people dont take into account is the pie is the same its just the fighters are getting more of the pie with pbc and the promoters less.

My only point is this anti PBC **** has its points "even tho people ignore those same points when hbo does it" but lets be honest whats happening at HBO is not PBC fault even if arum or HBO want to pretend it is. HBO is to the point where they are not willing to spend money on free programming. Theres a reasons ggg, kovalev, etc etc are fighting fighters hbo doesnt have to pay very much unless its a purse bid. Any halfway decent fight with 2 name fighters is now a PPV fight and personally I dont get why these pbc hating boxing writers are not bashing HBO more for it.

I just personally dont get it. We have thurman vs porter coming up for free technically a showtime fight when was the last time HBO put on this good of a fight for free? it doesnt happen anymore and instead of people bashing PBC we need to support them so we can see more thurman vs porter type fights

They act like unpaid Top Rank shills around here.

Al Haymon is to blame for everything from Global warming to Donald Trump's hair piece.

Agree. HBO's budget has been dropping every year since the late 90's/early 00's. We on the internet. Go research it, its a fact. PBC wasn't even around til last year. HBO's has been on its current path for a long time. HBO's interest in boxing has been great for boxing, but I don't believe there is any denying that HBO's interest in boxing has been lowering for a long time & I suspect HBO's boxing dynamic will be altered greatly in the near future either via them getting rid of boxing entirely, switching to a PPV model exclusively, flipping it to HBO Latino or maybe even go to some BoxNation/streaming model niche programming that includes their entire boxing catalog + some live fights from time to time, but I believe it'll change whatever it happens to change to.

And yea I don't exactly get the negative stance some fans have for PBC. There is lotsa boxing on TV that is watchable for more people than in a long ass time. It would seem thats good across the board, but somehow that has been turned into a negative for some vocal minority.

HBO just wants a return on their money. There's a reason why they paid over $100 million just to shoot the most recent season of Game of Thrones. The next episode alone of Game of Thrones cost over $30 million just to make. It's because they know they will get a return on their investment probably over five times.

With boxing, they don't know what kind of return they are getting.

          Yep.

People keep acting like HBO Boxing is HBO Boxing. HBO Boxing is HBO. HBO gots bigger **** to worry about than PBC or other **** like that. HBO gots x amount of money they are looking to spend each year & HBO Boxing gets what HBO deems it worthwhile for them to get in the bigger plan of HBO not of HBO Boxing. More of that money is going to things that are bringing in more money or that they think can bring in more money in the future. When boxing was more popular in the US HBO was throwing out Haymon-ish money each year ($100M+), but now its not so popular & they are throwing out about 1/3 of that amount. It is what it is.

Agreed. It isn't PBC's fault that HBO has reduced their sports budget (which they have been trimming for years), but it is PBC's fault that other networks will no longer have any interest in boxing unless they are paid to put it on air.

HBO is responsible for their own actions. Only HBO gets the credit or the blame for what they do or don't do.

Off topic, that's a beautiful straight right for a baseball player.

PBC is like socialism or grading on the curve. Why work hard for something when itll just be handed to you?
