Ireland's Michael Conlan will on Friday make a fitting professional debut at New York's Madison Square Garden in the knowledge he can expect to fight there for years. The super-bantamweight, who famously insisted he had been cheated out of a gold medal at Rio 2016, meets the United States' Tim Ibarra over six rounds on St Patrick's Day having also been told he can be Ireland's finest ever fighter.

I've not seen that much of him but is he not being massively overrated??
Throwing a toddler tantrum seems to have built a load of hype for him very weirdly

He's one of Ireland's most successful ever amateurs and passes the eye test with flying colours at least

I wonder if he's chinny like his brother though

            Look him up on YouTube.

Conlan has won gold medals in every elite amateur championships.besides the gold in Rio...

Think lomachenko, that is the level of quality conlan has and has competed against, almost identical amateur careers in terms of medals won.

We (Ireland) threw money into the high performance squad a few years ago, and under billy Walsh the Irish boxing team won more medals at world,European and Olympic level than ever taught possible.
Now you are starting to see these fighters emerge into their pro careers, Jason Quigley being another member of the high performance squad to move into the pro ranks along with paddy Barnes, Katie Taylor, con Sheehan and a few others who have not got going yet such as John Joe nevin who lost out to Luke Campbell for gold at London 12..

Ireland is about to start turning out some very good elite amateurs over the next couple of years thanks to the high performance squad, and Michael conlan will be the kick start for it.

If you want a measure of the level of following behind conlan, think McGregor, every person in Ireland has supported conlan and the rest of the Irish team he was in for a very long time, and the state broadcaster (rte) will being showing highlights of this fight, the first time in years they will show a pro fight since Willie Casey lost his title to rigondux.

              Overrated?
There aren't many overrated fighters in amateur boxing since they always face the best and Conlan is an olympic bronze medalist and the current world champion.

Theres a reason Shakur signed with TR and not Haymon/PBC....its cause they know how to promote and develop young talent into becoming stars. Your hate for certain promoters and their fighters is hilarious and only shows your bias and ignorance kid
