Is my jump rope too small?

I just bought an everlast jump rope and I feel like I'm running into it not because of how I'm doing it but because of the size... Its a 8 foot rope and I'm 5'6'' what size do you use and how tall are you.. I might keep it if im doing it wrong or I might return it if its too small.

They say the rope is a good size when you stand in the middle of it with 1 foot and it comes up to your armpits.
