One day I asked him why his hands were always red and swollen and he said he works himself to the very bone so that when me and sis become adults, we wont have to. It took me awhile to understand what he meant and at the time, I hated him for being so harsh on us, but now I thank him every day for being that way because this world is a cold and dark place where no one gives a shyt about you and if you don't fend for yourself in this world of wolves and sharks, you're not going to make it.Last edited by BigNuts; 04-28-2016, 08:26 PM.

Oddly enough, I didn't sense any racism from any classmates. A lot of them were cool. You could just sense their parents were the ones that weren't cool with it.

I would regularly talk to some of classmates in the lobby while we waited for our parents and sometimes their parents would drive up and give us these nasty looking stares like "what the hell are you doing at this school?" I just shrugged it off and focused on my school work, but you could definitely feel the racism.

They probably were surprised to see African-Americans attending a school that was imagined as being all well off white kids
But yeah you're right. A lot of people live in a bubble and are afraid to look outside of that bubble. They turn on the news or check their iphones for the latest news and see a certain race doing bad and end up thinking they know that entire race.

I only had a problem with one classmate and that was at that middle school.
There was a dude named shane that went to that school while I was in the 7th grade and he was a racist prick. Dude straight up called me a "dumb ******" because I was whooping his ass in a basketball game during gym class. I fired back and a fight broke out. Gym teacher came running over asking what the problem was and I didn't say anything, but another classmate did and told him what he said to me. Gym teacher told him to go to the principles office and he ended up getting suspended. I never told my parents about what happened and the school never called contacted them.
About a month later a car ended up hitting him while he was riding his bike. He died the day after.
Karma? who knows, but he's gone.
