Pele did and he scored in the quarter-final, semi-final and final.

Imagine his record if he'd got to play every game at the 62 & 66 WC's.
Imagine Ronaldo's if he hadn't been ruined by injuries and weight problems.

I didn't count it because he didn't get on the pitch.

But aside from the 98 final, he atleast got to play at World Cup's in his best form
For 98 he was coming off winning World Player of the Year in 96 & 97
In 2002 he came back from injury and had his best year, scoring in nearly every round winning World Player again
Pele played one World Cup from the Quarter-final stage at 17 then didn't get to play a injury-free tournament until he was 30
            That's the difference.

he was fit to play, he didnt get on the pitch cos he wasnt good enough. He was there, he got a winners medal.

edit- i remember one of the UK commontaters talking about him during that world cup, almost taking the piss, saying something like Brazil say they have the new pele here, but he cant get a game, he cant be that good lol.

The only tournament he played at his peak was 98. After he got the knee injury in 99 he was never the same. Pele was still in his prime in 1970 imo.

2006 brazil team was good. A lot of fire power. Ronaldo ,Ronaldinho, Adriano, Robinho, Kaka, etc.

Maybe they didn't want to risk an untried 17 year old in a world cup? Especially when they already had a shower of riches in that position.
